Summer In The City
Leadership
In response to COVID-19 Rachel Co-Founded Summer in the City (SITC) an extraordinary coalition of 53+ New York City arts and culture organizations who joined forces to bring NYC public school kids FREE participatory arts programs all summer long.
Our Mission
Our mission is to ensure access to world-class arts & culture programs for every NYC public school student this summer!
We will provide equal access to world-class, interactive arts and cultural programming to all public school students, regardless of age, race or socio-economic status, during this challenging summer. Because the NYC Department of Education has provided tablets and WiFi access to all students, a brand new pathway to arts programming now exists.
For the first time in history, the City has an unprecedented opportunity to create an entirely integrated and level playing field for access to the arts to every NYC public school child.
The Program
An extraordinary coalition of the best arts and culture organizations in the world will provide a full summer of dynamic programs - from July 6th to August 28th. Each of five daily time slots will offer up to twenty interactive virtual programs. That equates to 500 program hours per week and 40,000 hours of programming over eight weeks. With an average of twenty students/class, Summer In the City served 2,000+ students.
Confirmed 125+ classes from 53 arts organizations:
